Lavender Hill - Term 6, Week 8

4.5 hours

Knowing how much I was struggling with this portrait I took a photo of the model and did some small pencil studies at home to try to understand the larger masses and shapes.  I think this really helped to get to this stage.  Unfortunately I have to roll my drawings up to transport them to and from class so after a couple of weeks they start to get quite beaten up, hence the horizontal lines across it.

This is the start of a three week pose. I feel I have given the poor model a beard!

Both these poses were set up for 2 weeks but I was away on holiday the second week so drew as fast as I could in the time I did had.

I don't think I really managed to advance this portrait much this week I couldn't really work out what to do next and what was wrong. More practice required.

Lavender Hill - Term 6, Week 4

In the evening we started a 2 week portrait pose.

Lavender Hill - Term 6, Week 3

I was really fortunate this term that I am now able to draw in the afternoon session as well as the evening.  This life drawing pose was also my first experience of drawing on a donkey, not the furry four legged kind!  It was a whole new challenged being so close to the model and not being able to stand back to look. I was back on an easel for the evening session portrait.  The darker confident lines are my teachers corrections.

Still struggling trying to get the proportions right and handle the charcoal.  Very much enjoying being able to try though and relishing the challenge.
